Ex-U.S. international Jesse Marsch to coach RB Salzburg next season
Former United States international Jesse Marsch will take over as the new head coach of RB Salzburg, the Austrian club have announced.
Marsch will join from RB Leipzig, where he is an assistant, for next season.
The 45-year-old ex-New York Red Bulls coach takes over from Marco Rose, who will move to Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach, and has signed a three-year deal.
"I am really pleased and feel honoured to be able to work for this fantastic club as their next coach," Marsch said.
RB Salzburg sporting director Christoph Freund said: "We have followed his career and development very closely in recent years, and we have spoken often.
"We are completely convinced about him both as a professional and as a person. He knows our philosophy and way of playing football very well."
Having joined New York Red Bulls in January 2015, Marsch was named MLS Coach of the Year later that year. He had been linked with the Salzburg job in 2017, but instead joined Leipzig as assistant to Ralf Rangnick last year.
Marsch will be aiming to end a run that has seen Salzburg fail to get past the Champions League qualifiers for 11 seasons in a row, although they did reach last season's Europa League semifinals.
